Wine-bloggers in Verona, to set up VinoCamp

The hordes of wine-bloggers who will visit the next edition of Vinitaly have made a date at the stand of a blogger-producer, Poggio Argentiera, to decide on the details (where, when, how) of the first edition of VinoCamp Italia, a meeting for all wine bloggers and wine drinkers who write on the Net. All the details are here.

Bloggers’ Wine, Italian edition

The idea has developed from Wine Blogging Wednesday, and was launched by Imbottigliato all’origine last October: bloggers take it in turns to suggest a wine to taste. All those who want to take part get hold of the wine, and agree to publish their opinions in their blogs by the agreed deadline. The blogger who suggested the wine then publishes a summary of everyone’s opinion. This led to Bloggers’ Wine, now in its fourth round.

It was Lizzy’s turn, in her Vinopigro blog, to suggest the idea of Blogger’s Wine #4: a staggered tasting of a very special wine, the Foja Tonda produced by Albino Armani. I’ve just got hold of it, and this time I’ll be taking part as well: the final date for publishing opinions in the blog is 25 February 2007.

What does the winner get? Well, nothing, obviously! Just the pleasure of wine tasting among friends? :-) (more…)

A Panettone to go crazy for!

Panettone with Piedmont HazelnutsIn the supermarket, I saw a brand name panettone (I won’t say which brand) at € 1.90: and it’s still a good while till Christmas! The obvious question is: what do they make it from? Take the Panettone with Piedmont Hazelnuts by San Lorenzo: natural yeast, left to rise three times over 34 hours. And the ingredients? Have a good read of the product description. How many panettone are you going to eat in a year? So, why not indulge in the right one, then!

Salone del Gusto di Torino 2006

Salone del Gusto di Torino 2006
This is how it looks, in the double white and purple version, the official logo of the sixth edition of the Salone Internazionale del Gusto Torino 2006, as always promoted by Slow Food. Whatever you might think about Slow Food, this food and wine exhibition marks a turning point in the perception and diffusion of quality foods, and a visit to the Salone è is an absolute must for any foodie. It will be held from 26-30 October 2006…
Just a thought: what if we go together, or at any rate meet up there? Let’s try and arrange something…

18 Luglio 2006

Please note!

Orders received between 17 July and 20 August will all be sent after 21 August, because until then our friends and staff at the factory in Pieve di Teco will be enjoying their summer holidays. Let’s take this opportunity to thank them. At the end of the day they are the ones who - by bottling, packing and wrapping - make possible this wonderful game of "goodies", which is what San Lorenzo is all about: happy holidays, and come back in even better shape than before!

Mistery woman

Hi there.

I feel like one of those characters in the cartoon strips. You know, the super-heroe (or better, heroin) with a hidden identity. Except I do not have superpowers, nor anything to hide, really.

Antonio Tombolini, the deus-ex-machina of the San Lorenzo website and blog, dragged me here… and here I am, with no photo, no email you can reach, no website to click on… it is slightly embarassing, I feel like the ‘net-ghost’. For the moment, at least.

Well, I could certainly start with the name, it sounds like a good place to start: Simonetta. I am one of the gazillion Italians living and working in London. You may have gathered a good insight of the blues (azzurri) presence in London if you were  passing by Trafalgar square/ Piccadilly on Sunday night, after the world cup final. I could not resist mentioning it, excuse moi…

Well, I will not tell you much more for the moment. I have the exciting role of becoming your accredited guide of San Lorenzo UK. Having become, almost inevitably, a mutant breed of Anglo-Italian (scary creature, still no superpowers) I will settle here for the time being and teach you a great deal about my race. Needless to say, food and wine are high up in my priority list, so expect a lot of diversions into the wonderful land of Pantagruel…

So, meet you here…

To all Personal Chefs in Europe: we bring the wine!

We at San Lorenzo would love to be able to visit people’s homes and promote our products: I’m pretty sure we would place quite a few orders. But how?

Today, while thinking how good (and scarcely known) our wines [GB] are, I had a brainwave: a Personal Chef’s job and passion (what’s a Personal Chef?) is to enter people’s homes to do the cooking. I’d like to offer all Personal Chefs in Europe a deal: how about we offer the wine you serve with the dinners you prepare for your customers? For free. Yes. For free. You just have to write to me at this address, We’ll study the menu and discuss the best wines to be served and we’ll ship them to you.

What’s in it for us? Well, we know our wines are good, so I would expect you to promote them, telling your customers where they can be ordered, together will all our other products (which are just as good, you know). It’s a good deal, isn’t it?

[P.S. Sure, if you prefer another product instead of wine, such as our excellent extra virgin olive oil, or parmesan, or pasta, or any other special ingredient, well… we can fix it, don’t you think so?]

La cucina di San Lorenzo is online!

The San Lorenzo KitchenFrom today, on the home page of the section Store you’ll find La cucina di San Lorenzo (The San Lorenzo Kitchen) [GB], by our web-chef Sara Maternini aka Piperita. Sara knows her stuff in the kitchen: she’s the owner of Gusto Assoluto, a Milanese catering and banqueting business, and she’s also one of the most popular Italian food-bloggers, with her The kitchen pantry. She’ll be offering us a recipe from time to time, made with some of the products on San Lorenzo. She’ll be our host in the San Lorenzo Kitchen (which obviously is also a blog) with the recipes from the initiative Think of a recipe that you send us.
